Third Sun was tasked to create both new branding and websites for both the Avenues Street Fair and its presenting organization, Greater Avenues Community Council. Our approach was to make these two entities clearly connected re-using the "Avenues" blocks in the logos for both. Because of the popularity of the Avenues Street Fair, we wanted the website to stand alone so that the marketing for the Festival and recruitment of artists, vendors, and volunteers would be easier to manage for the all-volunteer Avenues committee.
Third Sun Productions has been managing the Utah Arts Festival's online presence since 2005. The site continually changes throughout the year from pre-festival application season to pre-festival artist announcement season to the full-blown festival website in June that includes 160+ visual artists and hundreds of performing artists, film screenings, and literary art events.
This new 2016 website focused even more on the mobile aspect of the Festival since easily more than half of the web traffic is from phones down on-site at the Festival.
The Downtown Alliance represents all things downtown SLC and has been a Third Sun client for several years. In our third iteration of their website, many things got downsized, but the blog -- where they post about downtown business and events -- got an overhaul.
The functions of a website for the average, commercial, super-mega cinema is easy: what’s playing and when. For a nonprofit organization like Salt Lake Film Society, there’s no denying visitors want film listings, but the organization simultaneously has to promote membership, events and education.
Not an easy task, but after a number of sketches and web scouring, we found a solution.
We borrowed ideas from some leading sports and news sites to make it easy for SLFS to promote its mission and events with slides and a sidebar, while providing ticketing and listing info in the form of a ticker-like bar across the top.
Just below, we opted for a card layout for the "Now Playing" section. Knowing viewers may want browse, we added a synopsis, schedule, and trailer — all viewable without leaving the homepage. We also integrated the site with SLFS's ticketing system.
Perhaps the most critical element was the mobile view. It’s vital for every site these days, but in particular for a movie site. When was the last time you didn't use your phone for showtimes? After some testing and refining, we were able to seamlessly adapt the site for intuitive mobile viewing.
Jenny Mackenzie, Ph.D. is an award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her documentary films, educational videos, and Public Service Announcements bring awareness and social change to a wide variety of issues. We worked on creating a main site, and sub-site for individual films, creating a simple, yet consistant look and feel across the various properties.
Third Sun worked with the University of Utah's College of Fine Arts department to create a website the is modern, sleek and informative. Seamlessly intergrating third party systems and calendar, in a website easy for the staff to manage and update.
The Yasser Barakat Gallery represents our first international client. Yasser's shop is located in the Old City of Jerusalem and he is known for his extensive collection of Palestinian embroider in addition to David Roberts lithographs and old maps.
